Masked Migrant Ordered Released; Will Live In Toronto

A Chinese man who entered Canada disguised in a mask as an old Caucasian man has been ordered released.

The migrant had to agree to strict conditions, including posting a $5,000 bond.

The immigration board adjudicator said at a hearing today that the man had been detained because the large debt he accrued in arriving in Canada could be a motivation not to appear for future refugee hearings.

But lawyer Daniel McLeod who is representing the migrant said a person closely linked to the young man’s family has agreed to post the bond and provide accommodation.

Canada Border Services Agency has continually argued the migrant be detained, arguing he is a flight risk.

In releasing the migrant, the immigration board also concluded he used human smugglers to get to Canada.

His case attracted world-wide attention after CNN broadcast his picture next to the picture of him in his disguise.
