Drug raid at popular pizza shop

A popular pizza joint on Harbord Street was the target of a police raid this week during which pot, crack, ecstasy and prescription painkillers were allegedly seized.

Officers from 14 Division started an investigation Sunday into alleged drug dealing at the long-standing shop at 189 Harbord St., just east of Bathurst. On Monday authorities executed a search warrant and arrested the 57-year-old owner.

Investigators allegedly found $1 million worth of marijuana in the shop. A half-ounce of crack, Oxycocet, Oxycontin, ecstasy and $8,000 in cash was also allegedly found inside.

Toronto Police Const. Tony Vella told CityNews.ca investigators found the drugs “behind the counter and as well in various places in the store.”

The restaurant is right across the street from Central Technical high school and is a few blocks east of Harbord Collegiate.

Pizza Gigi’s owner, Salvatore Crimi, is facing 15 drug charges and appeared in court Monday.

Police are asking anyone with information on the case to contact them at (416) 808-1400 or to call Crime Stoppers at (416) 222-TIPS.
