Police release name & photo of man found beside highway in Schomberg

Police in York Region have released the name and photograph of a man found beside a highway in Schomberg on a bitterly cold morning last week hoping for tips on the events that led to his death.

An off-duty police officer discovered Rudolf Picavet, 62, in a ditch beside Highway 9 just before 7:30am Friday. The Bradford man was pronounced dead in hospital after exposure to extreme weather conditions.

Investigators don’t believe there’s a criminal element to this case, but they’re still trying to figure out how and why Picavet ended up beside the highway. Police are asking anyone who may have seen the man on Fri. Feb. 11 between midnight and 7am in the area of Highway 9 and Main Street to contact them.

If you can help investigators call York Regional Police at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7141 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
