Scarborough residents don’t want streetlights on their road

Some Scarborough residents prefer to remain in the dark — literally. They’re fighting the installation of lights on their currently unlit street.

Toronto Hydro has begun an electrical upgrade near Kingston Road and Warden that includes putting up streetlights on Queensgrove Road. The road has no sidewalks or streetlamps and some residents would like to keep it that way, according to a report in the Toronto Star.

The majority of homeowners on the road isn’t happy about the change and believes streetlights will ruin the rural feel of the neighbourhood.

Toronto Hydro says it has an obligation to install the lights, claiming it’s a matter of safety.
