Few details released following alleged police shooting in Burlington

A witness claims he saw an argument before a fatal shooting this weekend, allegedly involving a Halton Police officer.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is probing the death of a 34-year-old Burlington man, who was shot to death Saturday night.

The agency, which investigates cases of alleged injury, sexual assault or death involving police officers, said authorities received several reports of a man driving erratically before he was pulled over while driving the wrong way on Walkers Line, near Mainway.

Mark Zubchinsky told the Hamilton Spectator he saw the officer and the man yelling and aggressively grabbing at each other. As the situation escalated, the officer pulled out his gun, took a few steps back and told the man to calm down.

The man, who hasn’t been identified, was shot and pronounced dead at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital around 10pm.
