Violence and concussions in hockey debated

In just one season, the number of concussions affecting NHL players has doubled, triggering a nationwide debate on the state of our national passion Even the Prime Minister has weighed in on the topic, with Stephen Harper saying the league needs to take a serious look at the issue “for its own sake.”

Owners, general managers, coaches, and parents have all had their say – and now, you can have yours.

Citytv and Rogers Sportsnet hosted a national debate on concussions in the National Hockey League on Thursday.

Crisis on Ice?” got underway at 7 p.m. on Sportsnet, and aired on Citytv at 11:30 p.m.

Hockey pros and a medical expert from the Neurotrama Institute in Ottawa joined the one-hour discussion.  Also taking part were Sportsnet’s Daren Millard, CityNews anchor Gord Martineau, Hockeycentral analysts Nick Kypreos, and Sportsnet Radio FAN 590’s Doug MacLean, and Damien Cox.  

Players, parents, and hockey fans from all walks of life joined in, debating head-shots, the role of fighting, and safety concerns at all levels.
