One person rushed to hospital after early morning fire

A man was taken to hospital in critical condition after fire broke out at a house on Coxwell Avenue, north of Dundas Street East.

Emergency crews were called to the scene around 5:30am Saturday morning at 174 Coxwell Ave.

Two other people in a basement apartment managed to escape without injuries. However, a resident in the home’s upstairs apartment suffered burns and smoke inhalation.

The second victim was rushed to Toronto East general Hospital also suffering from severe burns and smoke inhalation.

Firefighters managed to get the blaze under control quickly, but there’s no word on a cause. The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate.
