Police identify pedestrian killed in Markham

Police enlisted the help of the Philippine Consulate in Toronto to identify a woman who died after she was hit by a car in Markham earlier this week.

The 52-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck while crossing Markham Road, just north of Steeles Avenue, at 8:30 p.m. Monday.  The woman wasn’t carrying any ID at the time of the accident.

Authorities announced they’d identified the 52-year-old Markham woman Wednesday with the help of Philippine authorities and the consulate in Toronto. The woman’s name isn’t being released at the request of her family.

The accident is still under investigation and police are asking anyone who saw what happened to contact them at 1-866-876-5423, ext 7704 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
