Peel police officer charged with staging car crashes

Peel Police have charged one of their own following an investigation into allegedly fake car crashes.

Officers allege Cst. Carlton Watson was involved in a fraud ring that staged motor vehicle collisions.  Those crashes were followed by insurance claims for damaged vehicles and injuries sustained during the impact.

Watson, who was arrested on Thursday, allegedly reported the incidents as legitimate collisions. He has been charged with uttering a fraudulent document, obstructing justice, and breach of trust.

Watson has 18 years policing experience and has been suspended with pay.

A second man has also been arrested. Wayne Isaacs, 46, has been charged with defrauding the public.

The investigation is ongoing.
