Vehicle vandalism reported in four Toronto ridings

A vandalism spree that appears to be politically-motivated has spread to four Toronto ridings and Liberal candidates have been targeted.

Most recently, cases have been reported in the Davenport and Toronto-Centre ridings. Over the long weekend, police said tires were slashed and paint was scratched on vehicles in the midtown riding of St. Paul’s and the downtown riding of Trinity-Spadina.

There have been at least two dozen incidents of vehicles vandalized since Thursday. Bob Rae, the Liberal candidate in Toronto-Centre, said his front left tire was punctured Saturday.

“I don’t think for a moment that any other political party is responsible for this,” he said Sunday. “This is just bad people up to no good, but there’s been too much of it.”

Toronto Liberal MPP Eric Hoskins reportedly found his tires slashed Saturday, as well.

Police haven’t confirmed a political motivation behind the string of vandalism cases. The vehicles targeted were parked outside homes with Liberal election lawn signs.

On Friday, police released an image of a person of interest after more than a dozen vehicles were vandalized in the Bayview and Eglinton Avenue areas.
