Air Canada resumes flying out of Island Airport

After years of legal battles, Air Canada resumed flying out of Toronto’s Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport Sunday.

The airline is offering 15 round-trip flights daily to Montreal, hoping to compete with the island airport’s in-house airline, Porter Airlines.

Although the new flights may seem like a major victory for Air Canada, they received only 30 take-off and landing slots.

By comparison, Porter Airlines has 156 slots and flies to many more destinations.

Air Canada has gone on record as saying they’re hoping to expand their flights and fly to other cities besides Montreal.

The Toronto Port Authority has asked both Porter and Air Canada for proposals on their plans for expanded flights.
