Cops seize Pizza Gigi as owner faces drug charges

Authorities have taken control of a popular Harbord Street pizzeria more than two months after the owner was charged for allegedly storing and selling drugs at the shop.

On Thursday police announced they’d issued a restraints order this week for Pizza Gigi and if owner Salvatore Crimi is convicted, a forfeiture hearing will be held, as is often the case with properties linked to drug crimes.

“The restraints order itself just makes the property available for forfeiture,” Det. Richard MacCheyne of Toronto Police’s Financial Crimes unit told CityNews.ca. “So the owner won’t be able to sell it, won’t be able to get a mortgage on it, they must maintain the property.”

“If Mr. Crimi is convicted of the offences which he’s alleged to have committed then a forfeiture hearing will be held.”

Crimi started serving up pies again about two weeks after his arrest.

He’s facing 15 drug charges after police raided his pizza joint in February and allegedly seized $1 million worth of marijuana, a half ounce of crack, Oxycocet, Oxycontin, MDMA and $8,000 in cash.

The restaurant is right across the street from Central Technical School and is a few blocks east of Harbord Collegiate.
