The victims of a fatal police chase in Orillia have been identified.

Jacob Sabourin, 28, and Rachel Merredew, 19, died shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday when their car struck a hydro pole.

The OPP tried to pull over a vehicle going north on Highway 11 in Oro-Medonte Township. According to officers, the driver fled, running over a police spike belt placed at 15th Line and exiting at Memorial Avenue.

Authorities say they stopped the chase, but the driver continued north, lost control and crashed.
