Serious injuries in head-on crash at Yonge and York Mills; van fire on Highway 401

Police are investigating two traffic incidents that happened in Toronto on Friday afternoon.

Two drivers were hurt in a crash when their cars collided head-on at Yonge Street and York Mills Road around 2 p.m.

Both victims were taken to Sunnybrook hospital after firefighters freed one who had become trapped.

Paramedics described the injuries as serious, but not life-threatening.

Meanwhile, a van caught fire in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near Dufferin. No one was hurt and fire fighters had the blaze extinguished in about 10 minutes.

The van was carrying car parts and magnesium, a metal used in the auto industry.
