Thousands pound the pavement to raise money for Sick Kids Hospital

While many in Toronto and the GTA were sitting down to a Mother’s Day breakfast Sunday morning, one mother was continuing her own powerful tradition, ten years in the making.

Sunday saw the tenth anniversary of Meagan’s Walk, the event commemorating the life of little Meagan Bebenek. At five years old, Meagan passed away from an inoperable brain tumour.

Her mother, Denise, has been organizing the walk since Meagan’s passing to raise money for the Hospital for Sick Children.

Sunday’s event began at Ontario Place at 10 a.m. Sunday morning. From there, walkers headed to Sick kids to form a “human hug.”

Meagan’s Walk has raised more than $2.5-million for brain tumour research. This year’s walk raised another $460,000.
