Pet returned home after grocery store dog-napping

A dog that was reported stolen outside a grocery store in the Forest Hill area on Monday has been returned home, police told CityNews on Tuesday.

The dog, named Oban, went missing after Amber McMain left him tied up in front of the Loblaws on St. Clair Avenue West near Bathurst.

“I’m heartbroken. I don’t understand why anyone would take my dog in the first place,” McMain said hours before her dog was turned.

The store’s surveillance video shows a man stopping to pet the dog — who also answers to Obie — before he untied the animal and walked away. The man was last seen headed eastbound on St. Clair West. Officers have spoken to the man  and no charges are being laid at this time.
