Canadian businessman shot, killed in Mexico City

Officials say a man shot and killed in Mexico’s capital last week was a Canadian who owned an air-conditioning company in the country.

Joel St. Tierre was shot in the head on May 3, said the Mexico City attorney general in a statement.

Police did not find identification documents on 35-year-old St. Tierre. His wife, Melanie Cote, identified the body two days later.

St. Tierre lived in the western city of Zapopan where he owned an air-conditioning company, but was in Mexico City visiting a friend, said the statement.

Alain Cacchione, a spokeswoman of Canada foreign affairs, confirmed a Canadian citizen had died in Mexico City and said consular officials are working with local authorities to gather information.

Cacchione did not name the citizen saying it was a private matter.
