Two-alarm fire in High Park area

Firefighters battled a two-alarm blaze in an abandoned building in the High Park area Wednesday morning.

The flames broke out just before 6:30 a.m. in a boarded-up house on Oakmount Road near Bloor, west of Keele Street.

The flames have been particularly hard to douse because of the boards across the windows and doors.

Oakmount is closed north of Bloor.

No injuries have been reported.

There are a number of boarded-up homes on Oakmount as the road is slated for redevelopment with a controversial new 14-storey condo planned for the area. A public meeting was held this month to inform local residents that the development plan, which has been on hold for some time, will move forward to the next stage.

There’s no word yet on a cause.
