Man shot to death at Vic Park & Finch

Police are searching for two “armed and dangerous” suspects after a 21-year-old man was fatally shot in the chest near Victoria Park and Finch Avenues late Thursday.

Officers were called to the scene at a McDonald’s parking lot at 10:15 p.m. where they found John Kang suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead, marking the city’s 22nd homicide of the year.

“There’s no strong indication as to whether it was a random street robbery or a setup,”  Det. Scott Whittemore said at a press conference Friday.

Whittemore said Kang was at the plaza with a friend. That friend drove him to hospital, and the pair were helped by at least three other people.

“We’re very interested in speaking to those people,” Whittemore said.

“One of the Good Samaritans…actually helped lift [Kang] into the van,” he added.

Whittemore said police had spoken to the victim’s friend and he was ‘extremely’ helpful.
