One person killed in crash on 401 in Oshawa, another crash on 407

One person was killed in a crash on Highway 401 in Oshawa Wednesday.

The accident involving a motorcycle and two other vehicles happened just before 9 a.m. on the westbound lanes at Stevenson Road.

The victim, a 42-year-old Courtice man, apparently clipped the back of a pickup truck as traffic was slowing and then swerved into the path of a tractor-trailer. He was then dragged several metres and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Once he hit the rear end of the car that was slowing for traffic, he lost control, swerved over into the middle lane, and was struck by an approaching tractor-trailer,” OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford said.

The OPP temporarily closed the westbound lanes in the area for the investigation. The lanes re-opened around 12:30 p.m.

Less than an hour after the accident in Oshawa, another crash happened on the eastbound 407 at Highway 401 when a dump truck slammed into an overhead sign.

The OPP closed the eastbound lanes of the highway at the 401. The area reopened later Wednesday afternoon.
