Five things to do this weekend: Paddling, pedalling and pounding the pavement

1. For families: Celebrate the humble two-wheeler with clinics, test rides, and the latest gear at Bikefest in the Distillery District. All skill levels welcome. June 25. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free. mec.ca/bikefest

2. For visitors: From May to October, guides from Heritage Toronto lead free neighbourhood walking tours across the city. The Junction: June 25. 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Meet at the northwest corner of Runnymede Road and Dundas Street West. The mansions of Jarvis Street: June 26. 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Meet at the southeast corner of Jarvis and Isabella streets. heritagetoronto.org 

3. For singles:  Aretha Franklin (you might have heard of her) kicks off the 10-day Toronto Jazz Festival on Friday with a free concert at Metro Square. Also on the roster are hip-hop band The Roots and flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucia. June 24 to July 3. Various venues. torontojazz.com

4. For charity: For six hours on Saturday, teams of two will compete in City Chase, a downtown obstacle course and scavenger hunt to raise money for Right to Play. For every $50 raised, one needy child will be enrolled in the charity’s sports program. June 25. Course opens 10 a.m. Registration $150. Yonge-Dundas Square. mitsubishicitychase.com

5. For kicks: Expect drum beats, furious paddling and lots of yelling at the Toronto International Dragon Boat Race Festival – a competitive, but fun, tradition with roots in China. June 25 to 26. Free. Centre Island. dragonboats.com
