Health care workers stage flash mob near Dundas Square

Dozens of health care workers rallied in front of the Citytv building Friday morning in an effort to make their industry a key issue in the upcoming provincial election.

“On Oct. 6, vote for health care,” said Urz Heer, an organizer for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

“We’re a bunch of health care workers and we are rallying for health care. We want the government to recognize that health care is an important issue and we need to stand up and voice our concerns.”

About 50 workers clad in purple T-shirts and hats gathered for their “flash mob” at Victoria and Dundas treets at 8 a.m. The gathering was aimed at highlighting funding problems. Heer said seniors in particular aren’t getting enough personal home care due to inadequate funding.
