Firefighters knocked down a blaze at a townhouse complex on Sudbury Street near King, as Toronto reached record-breaking temperatures on Thursday.
The flames erupted, apparently on the top floor of a unit, around 1 p.m. at 45 Sudbury St. Smoke could be seen from the Gardiner Expressway.
So far, no injuries have been reported. Cooling chairs were brought in for the firefighters working in the extreme hot weather, which at 1 p.m. hit 36.1 C at Pearson International Airport. That breaks the previous record of 35.6 C for July 21, 1955.
There’s no word yet on a cause or damage estimate.
