Festivals to shut down sections of major streets this weekend

Sections of three major streets will be shut down this weekend for events.

The Beaches International Jazz Festival Street Fest kicked off Thursday night and the annual event will close a stretch of Queen Street East between Woodbine and Beech avenues, between 6 p.m. and midnight Friday and Saturday nights.

Close to a million people flood into the east end neighbourhood to take in the sights and sounds.

The Big on Bloor Festival will close a section of Bloor Street West between Dufferin and Lansdowne on Saturday between 9 a.m. and midnight. Local businesses will have booths set up on the street and there will be performances and other exhibits.

And Yonge Street between Queen and Dundas will be closed Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. for Youth Day 2011. More than 500 young artists will be displaying their work and performances are scheduled through the day.
