Woman escapes serious injury after SUV slams into parked rig

It took emergency crews about an hour to free a woman from an SUV after the vehicle became lodged under a parked tractor-trailer in Brampton early Thursday.

The accident happened at 150 Summerlea Rd. — an industrial area near Torbram Road and Steeles Avenue — around 1:30 a.m and, amazingly, the woman wasn’t seriously hurt.

Police said the woman started the SUV and then tried to move over to the passenger side. As she shifted to the other seat, her foot became stuck on the gas pedal and the vehicle accelerated several hundred feet to an adjoining parking lot, and under the rig.

The woman was taken to Sunnybrook hospital with non life-threatening injuries — mostly cuts and bruises. Authorities said the woman’s injuries would’ve been much worse if she had been sitting in the driver’s seat.

No charges have been laid.
