Margaret Atwood responds to Ford brothers

Canadian literary icon Margaret Atwood, who has been lobbying online to save Toronto city libraries, took a cheeky jab at the the mayor and his councillor brother.

Over the weekend, Atwood took to Twitter to respond to an Atwood for Mayor campaign sparked by Coun. Doug Ford’s recent comments.

“Noo, not running for Mayor … too old. Used to think Too Ignorant, but that hasn’t stopped some,” she tweeted Sunday with an open-mouth smiley face. “Appreciate the kind thoughts however!”

“OK, STOP me from drawing a Twin FordMayor(s) Comic Strip! I get in too much trouble as it is!,” she added.

Last week, Doug Ford blasted Atwood for her online movement to save city libraries from proposed cuts.

“I say good luck to Margaret Atwood. I don’t even know if she’s a resident of Toronto. If she is, she has her input,” Ford told CityNews last week at city hall.

“If she really wants to get involved, I encourage her to run as a city councillor. Get involved.”

On July 21, Atwood encouraged her more than 235,000 followers to support the city’s local libraries and to push city council to save them from proposed cuts.

She retweeted an online petition that received a serious boost from her followers, which now has 42,839 signatures.
