Hundreds of tai chi practitioners show off martial art in Toronto

Hundreds of Tai Chi practitioners have taken over part of downtown Toronto.

The members of the International Taoist Tai Chi Society are showing off their martial art in an international celebration at Yonge-Dundas Square.

There will also be a parade on Yonge Street, and two dragons dancing around the square.

The ancient Chinese art involves slow arm and leg movements along with advanced breathing techniques, and can improve mental and physical health.

The society’s national director Judy Millen says tai chi clubs around the world are taking part in the event.

The society is also hoping city councillors and provincial politicians participate.
