Man sought after 6 North York sex assaults

Toronto police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down a suspect after six sexual assaults, mostly targeting Asian women, happened in and around the Yonge and Finch area.

The attacks started May 8 and continued until late last month. In each incident the attacker has operated in the same way: he approaches women from behind and assaults them. The assaults have happened throughout the day and night on streets and in places out of the public’s view.

Five of the six victims are of Asian descent. All of the women are between the ages of 20 and 39.

One of the first assaults happened June 17 on Yonge Street, near Empress Avenue. Four days later another woman reported being assaulted while walking on Don Mills Road, near Sheppard. An attack happened July 11 on a path between Averill and Deering crescents and another occurred July 31 near Olive Avenue and Yonge.

Det. Const. Phil Campbell said the same man is likely responsible for two other attacks in the area.

Police had earlier released a composite sketch and a security image of a suspect and have been appealing to the public for help since June.

“Anybody that’s a victim of sexual assault is a victim of a violent offence …We’re doing everything we can to identify this guy,” Campbell said.

The man is described as:

-Asian descent,
-Between 20 and 30-years-old,
-Around 5’9”
-Spiky black hair
