GM Shero says Crosby making progress but not sure if he’ll be ready for season

Pittsburgh general manager Ray Shero said Sidney Crosby “has progressed really well this summer” but he could not say for sure whether the Penguins superstar would be ready for the start of the new season.

Crosby has suffered on and off from symptoms from his concussion, Shero said, but the side effects hadn’t forced him to shut down his training.

The GM said the Penguins will evaluate Crosby when he returns to Pittsburgh in a month’s time, about a week before the Penguins begin training camp.

Crosby missed the second half of the season while suffering from concussion symptoms. He did not play after taking blows to the head in consecutive games Jan. 1 and 5.

After a European vacation with teammates in May, Crosby was examined in Pittsburgh before retreating to his home in Nova Scotia for the summer.
