New charges against man who allegedly threatened mayor

A Toronto man who allegedly threatened Mayor Rob Ford’s life last week appeared in court on Monday on new charges related to graffiti found in the city’s west end.

Robert Dunlop, 46, was arrested around 8:30 a.m. Sunday after residents of Abbott Avenue, near Bloor and Dundas Street West, found the words “NDP” and “Layton” spray-painted on their houses, cars, roads and sidewalks.

He was charged with six counts of mischief and one count of theft, and a judge ordered him to have no contact with Ford or the people whose property was damaged.

Last week, Dunlop was charged with two counts of threatening bodily harm and one count of threatening death for messages he posted on Facebook and Twitter.

He is the second man charged with threatening the mayor’s life. In July, Anthony Vella, 56, was charged with threatening death against Ford during a recorded call to 311.

Both men are due in court later this week.
