Glass falls from 2nd downtown condo tower

Glass fell from a second downtown condo tower on Tuesday afternoon, the day after a woman was injured by shards of glass from a condo on Grenville Street.

“It was loud enough for us to hear across the street. We didn’t know what was going on. We thought it was a car accident, like a window shattering, but it turned out to be a building,” one witness said.

A pane of glass fell onto Bedford Road near Bloor Street around 3:30 p.m. No one was injured.

“Where are the city’s building inspectors in all this? We’re not a third-world country,” another witness fumed.

Meanwhile, Coun. Kristyn Wong-Tam called for an investigation of Monday’s incident.

“Originally, it was sort of an isolated incident, an isolated tower, but now I’ve got a heightened sense of worry,” the councillor said.

Police told CityNews that emergency crews were called to a condo on Grenville in the Bay and College area, shortly before noon Monday.

The woman suffered minor injuries to her hand.

“It came straight from the sky down on top of me,” said injured pedestrian Allison, who was on a stretcher and didn’t provide her last name.

This is the latest in a spate of similar incidents downtown. Glass has fallen from the building’s north tower, 37 Grosvenor St. as many as eight times in recent months.
