With school scheduled to start in one week (most students return to the classroom the day after Labour Day), finding a new backpack is top-of-mind for many families.
It’s important to find one that fits properly, chiropractor Dr. Sender Deutsch explains, as the weight of homework and books can cause back problems for some children.
“You’re going to be overusing muscles and certain muscles will become tight, which will impact your range of motion and flexibility,” Deutsch said.
Make sure that there’s adequate padding on the back, he advises, and fasten all straps, including the ones that go across the chest.
