In an exclusive interview with CityNews, Mayor Rob Ford told Avery Haines that he won’t close Toronto public libraries.
“We’re not cutting libraries or police,” Ford said during the debut broadcast of CityNews at Five.
“People support me from all political stripes…they like that I’m going to cut the waste,” he added.
The mayor made the comments after he recently asked all departments to cut 10 per cent from their budgets in order to stop gap a 2012 budget deficit of $774 million. Ford has also offered city workers buyouts and is considering recommendations from a consulting firm, which suggested the idea of closing library branches among other things.
