Residents of a west end apartment building, in the Jane Street and Grandravine area, are upset because they say they have been without power since Saturday afternoon, with only very few working outlets.
“I’m a diabetic, there are a lot of sick people in the building. We’ve been bringing food to them, cooking food on the barbeques. Some of these women have just had babies – how are they warming the food up, where are they getting the food up?” said building resident Janet Rider.
“I’m scared and I tell my mom to put on candles,” said one small resident.
Toronto Hydro says there are no equipment problems from a hydro standpoint at the building, and they have received no calls from building management.
There is a sign posted in the lobby, warning residents there will be no power until Tuesday Sept. 6 due to a “major electrical problem.”
Some of the building has had power restored, but the majority of the floors remain in the dark.
The building’s superintendent didn’t respond to requests for comment.
