Blue Jays release 2012 schedule; open season on the road in Cleveland

The Toronto Blue Jays will open the 2012 season on the road in Cleveland.

The team’s 36th year in the American League will kick off with a three-game series at Progressive Field starting April 5, according to the schedule released Wednesday.

Toronto returns home after that and will hold its home opener against Boston on April 9. The first homestand of the season will feature nine games over 11 days against AL East rivals — Boston, Baltimore and Tampa Bay.

Interleague play will see the New York Mets (May 18-20), Washington Nationals (June 11-13) and Philadelphia Phillies (June 15-17) visit the Rogers Centre.

The Blue Jays say there will be no ticket price increase in 2012.
