Police confirm deaths of two Peel teens was murder-suicide

Peel police have confirmed the deaths of 17-year-old Kiranjit Nijjar and a 16-year-old boy was indeed a murder-suicide.

The boy fell from an overpass on Highway 401 at Mavis Road Friday morning — just a few hours before Nijjar’s body was found at a parkette on Spinnaker Circle in Mississauga.

He died Sunday night.

While police won’t disclose the boy’s identity under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, CityNews has learned his name is Akash Wadhwa.

“I’m still in shock … I need my privacy,” Wadhwa’s father told CityNews.

Wadhwa and Nijjar were classmates at Mississauga Secondary School. He reportedly suffered from depression.

But Wadhwa’s family was in the dark about his reported troubles.

“No, not really. That’s what I asked them about it. They said they had no clue about it,” said family friend Ankur Kapur.

The flag at Mississauga secondary School remains at half-staff, as students grieve.

“Such a loss, to have something like that happen. They had their whole lives in front of them,” said grade 12 student Ahmad.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Peel police at (905) 453-3311.
