A re-release of an early 90s Disney movie topped the box office this past weekend.
The Lion King 3D raked in $30.1 million, while the thriller Contagion and Drive, the tale of a Hollywood stuntman who finds himself on the wrong side of the law, rounded out the top three.
Contagion’s big-name cast — including Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne and Jude Law — was no match for the animated tale of a young lion who must avenge his father’s death to take his rightful place as king.
Contagion, which tracks a rapidly-shifting virus that sparks a global pandemic, took in $14.5 million in its second week in theatres.
Ryan Gosling stars alongside Carey Mulligan in Drive, which took in $11.3 million.
Both The Lion King and Drive were new releases.
