CityVote Day 15: Advance polls open

As the provincial party leaders campaign for the 15th day, voters will be able to start casting ballots at advance polls Wednesday.

Election day is Oct. 6. You can find a list of advanced polls and more information about voting here.

Liberal Leader Dalton McGuinty, NDP chief Andrea Horwath and Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak all made stops in Toronto Wednesday.

McGuinty visited the Kellogg plant in Belleville and made an announcement in Georgetown before heading to Toronto for an event with the Indo-Canadian Chamber of Commerce.

Horwath was in Toronto Wednesday morning and then headed to an all-candidates debate in Hamilton.

Hudak was in Brampton Wednesday morning and then headed to Toronto. While in Brampton, Hudak vowed not to hike taxes. He said he would strengthen the Taxpayer Protection Act, and accused McGuinty of “reneging” after promising he would not raise taxes.

Horwath, meanwhile, focused on health care, promising more money for birthing centres. The centres would be staffed by mid-wives.

For the Liberals, it was all about green technology. McGuinty said he stood behind a proposed cap-and-trade system for emissions — but only if there were “economic advantages” for the province.

While jobs and affordability issues have played high in the campaign so far, the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) wants to push health care up on the priority list.

“We feel people need and deserve more information before they can cast their ballot, and that’s why we issued a letter with nine questions to each party leader,” Doris Grinspun, the RNAO’s executive director said.

The group says the parties need to unveil more information on their plans for health care. McGuinty has vowed to find savings without shutting down hospitals – something he claims Hudak would do.

The PC leader has vowed to cut government waste while protecting investments in health care.
