Netflix announces agreement with Discovery

Netflix announced an agreement with Discovery Communications on Wednesday, allowing members to stream shows from that company’s channels, including Animal Planet and TLC onto their TVs and computers.

The two-year, non-exclusive agreement between Netflix Inc. and Discovery also includes the channels Investigation Discovery, Science and Military Channel.

It’s been a busy week for Netflix. Earlier, the company announced it would separate its Internet streaming division from its DVD-by-mail division.

The by-mail division will now be called Qwikster, and customers who get both will now have to visit two websites to make video requests and update their bills, and they’ll have to pay more for the DVDs.

Shares rose 77 cents to $130.80 in pre-market trading Wednesday but are down about 16 per cent for the week.
