Canadian Olympic Committee to reissue red mittens

The Canadian Olympic Committee is bringing out the red mittens again.

Three dollars from each pair of the $10 mittens, sold by the Hudson’s Bay Company, will go towards supporting Canadian Olympians preparing for the 2012 Games in London.

Originally launched in 2009 by the Vancouver 2010 organizing committee, the red mittens program raised more than $14 million in its first year with 3.5 million pairs sold. Last year, more than 1.63 million pairs were sold, contributing $4.9 million in funds to the Canadian Olympic Foundation.

“Our red mittens campaign provides the Canadian Olympic Foundation with a great way to help support our athletes on their Olympic journey,” Chris Overholt, CEO and secretary general of the Canadian Olympic Committee, said in a statement. “We have new mittens for a new year, but the goal is still the same: supporting Canada’s Olympic athletes.”
