Police find elderly man who disappeared Wed. afternoon

Police found an elderly man Thursday morning who had been missing since Wednesday afternoon after he wandered away from Sunnybrook hospital.

Je Pin Tsear accompanied his wife to an appointment at the hospital on Wednesday. When she finished her appointment, around 5 p.m., her husband was gone.

Officers had been searching the area around the hospital for the missing man and expanded the search around 8 a.m. Thursday morning.

“We had a lot of tips come through. One of our very observant officers was in Sherwood Park and saw the gentleman walking, went up to him and the gentleman was very happy to be found. It had just started pouring,” Toronto Police Inspector Joanna Beaven said.

“He didn’t realize he’d been out all night.”

There was great concern for Tsear’s safety because he suffers from dementia and is diabetic.

Police confirmed he’d been found safe around 9 a.m. He was taken back to Sunnybrook to be checked over.

“If it wasn’t for the community watching the news … it would’ve taken us a lot longer to find him,” Beaven said.
