Police identify man shot and killed near Trinity Bellwoods Park

Police have identified a man who was shot and killed near Trinity Bellwoods Park on the weekend.

Jefflin Beals, 25, was killed shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday near Queen and Crawford streets, east of Ossington Avenue, where a number of Nuit Blanche events were taking place.

Police got several 911 calls after neighbours heard gunshots, but when officers arrived on the scene they found a car with bullet holes and no victim.

After a search nearby, they found Beals lying unconscious between two houses with two gunshot wounds to the chest. Paramedics took him to St. Michael’s Hospital on an emergency run.

Beals was pronounced dead soon after.

“I heard cops running up my driveway,” said a resident named Bibi. “I flipped the lights on and opened the door, and they said, ‘Get back in. Somebody just died right next to your house.’”

Now, police say they need the public’s help.

“We do know that there were people in the park area that night, during the early morning hours and on the street,” said Det. Sgt. Wayne Banks of the homicide squad.

Police have spoken with the victim’s family. Beals is from Darthmouth, Nova Scotia. There are no details about possible suspects.
