Toronto was a sea of pink Sunday, as thousands of people laced up their sneakers and pounded the pavement at the annual CIBC Run for the Cure.
“We can beat this. We can. We just need to be positive. We can do it,” said Michelle Murphy, who was diagnosed with breast cancer six months ago.
The 20th annual run is Canada’s largest volunteer-led fundraiser, and a powerful event for those affected by breast cancer, including CityNews reporter Cynthia Mulligan. She was diagnosed with the disease last year.
“A year ago I had just finished chemo, and I was bald and I was about to have surgery — we walked, but I couldn’t do the run, and this year we ran. And it feels so good. And look I have hair, it feels great,” said Mulligan, who led the Citytv team, alongside CityLine host Tracy Moore.

The Run for the Cure is held in 60 countries across the globe. Runs held across Canada raised more than $30 million this year for breast cancer research.
