Occupy Toronto demonstration planned later this month

A demonstration inspired by the Occupy Wall Street protests is coming to Toronto later this month.

Demonstrators plan to gather at Berczy Park at Wellington and Victoria streets on Fri. Oct. 7 and the “occupation” is set to begin on the 15th in a yet determined location, according to the Occupy Toronto website.

“We are determined to recognize the grievances of Canadian Citizens with regards to our Economic and Financial Policies,” the group says on its Facebook page. “It has become clear to us that there is a great deal of unethical and unjust behaviour among our corporate elite.”

In Manhattan on Monday, protesters dressed as corporate zombies greeted Wall Street workers heading into their offices. Organizers urged protesters to dress in business wear with white faces and blood and march while eating monopoly money.

Over the weekend, 700 people taking part in the protests were arrested while marching over the Brooklyn Bridge.

Demonstrators have been camping out at Zuccotti Park since Sept. 17 and organizers are targeting a wide array of issues, including corporate corruption and greed, global warming, and home foreclosures around the U.S.
