2 Oshawa shoppers help 90-year-old robbery victim

Durham Regional police are looking for a man accused of robbing a 90-year-old woman who was rescued by two Good Samaritans.

The suspect allegedly robbed the woman at Oshawa’s Five Points Mall, near Ritson and Taunton roads, around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Officers say the woman was pulling a dolly, which contained her purse, when the suspect rode by on a bicycle and grabbed her purse.

He then rode away. The woman was not injured.

Two shoppers, who witnessed the incident, chased after the suspect. One woman ran after him on foot while a man got in his car and caught up with the suspect near Beatrice Avenue and Ritson Road.  

The driver was able to get the woman’s purse, but not the suspect.

Police officers found a bicycle at the scene.

The woman’s purse was returned without anything missing.

Police are now looking for the suspect. He’s described as:

  • male
  • white
  • 6’2”
  • slender build
  • approximately 40 years old
  • partially balding with some grey/white hair
  • unshaven appearance
  • wearing blue jeans and a red long-sleeve shirt
