5 things to do this weekend: Pick pumpkins, take a haunted tour and see new ROM exhibit

For families: The fall colours will be in full bloom at Puck’s Farm for its annual Fall Fair and Pumpkin Festival. Take the kids pumpkin picking, ride the ferris wheel and tour bouncy castle and farmer Puck’s haunted barn. For visitors: It’s painting for the 21st century. David Hockney’s Fresh Flowers exhibit opens at the Royal Ontario Museum this weekend. The exhibit features Hockney’s drawings of botanicals on the iPad and iPhone. Opens Oct. 8 and runs until Jan. 1, 2012. Adult admission is $24.

For singles: Nothing beats a good movie. Director Steve James’ latest film The Interrupters will be shown at the TIFF Bell Lightbox throughout the weekend. It chronicles teams of “violence interrupters,” sent out to intervene at the beginning of gang- and drug-related hostilities in Chicago. For kicks: Experience everything spooky that the city has to offer by checking out Muddy York Walking Tours through the haunted spots of downtown Toronto. Stops include Queen’s Park, Old City Hall, and Osgoode Hall.
