Paul McCartney weds American heiress

Hundreds of fans cheered on former Beatle Paul McCartney as he wed American heiress Nancy Shevell in London on Sunday.

The civil ceremony at Old Marylebone Town Hall took less than an hour, and a reception – attended by Ringo Starr – followed at the couple’s home nearby.

It’s Sir Paul’s third marriage and Shevell’s second.

They were engaged earlier this year and had first met in the Hamptons in New York in 2008 after his bitter divorce with Heather Mills.

McCartney, 69, married his first wife, Linda Eastman, in 1969. They had four children, including designer Stella McCartney, before Linda died in 1998 of breast cancer.

Four years later, he married Mills and had a daughter, but the marriage quickly broke down.

Shevell, 51, was married for more than 20 years to attorney Bruce Blakeman and is on the board of New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority. She is also a vice-president at her father’s trucking company.

Another ex-Beatle, the late John Lennon, would have turned 71 on Sunday.
