Teen charged after passenger seriously hurt in crash

Police have arrested an 18-year-old man accused of driving drunk and causing two separate crashes overnight.
Around 1 a.m., police got a call about a driver fleeing after a two-car crash on Brandon Gate, near Goreway and Morning Star drives.
Moments later, a second call came in about a car slamming into a tree about 500 metres away.
A 19-year-old woman in the man’s car was trapped. Emergency crews freed her and took her to Pearson airport, where she was then airlifted to Sunnybrook hospital with major damage to her lower body. She is expected to survive.
Police charged Nisanth Srikanthan with a number of offences including fail to remain and impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
Two people in the first collision had minor injuries.
