Man pleads guilty in murder of philanthropist Glen Davis

TORONTO, Ont. – A 41-year-old man accused in the murder of his wealthy philanthropist godfather confessed in court.

The surprise guilty plea came just days before jury selection was set to begin in Marshall Ross’ first-degree murder trial.

Ross told a Toronto court on Wednesday he was the mastermind behind the murder four years ago of multi-millionaire Glen Davis, 66.

He admitted to hiring men to gun Davis down in a parking garage near Eglinton Avenue East and Mount Pleasant Road in May 2007.

Davis had just finished a meeting with the World Wildlife Fund, one of many environmental causes he supported financially.

Ross was sentenced to an automatic mandatory life in prison, with no parole eligibility for 25 years.

The two men Ross allegedly hired to carry out the murder will stand trial later in October.
