3 bank heists in an hour Wednesday

Police are searching for suspects after three bank robberies that appear to be connected were reported within an hour Wednesday.

In each case, three men with bandanas covering their faces were responsible for the heists. 

“A gun was indicated but not seen.  No one was physically hurt, but obivously it was a tramautic situation for the tellers,” revealed PC Tony Vella.

The getaway car was the same in each case—a black Honda Civic with the licence plate BMSC 266. During each robbery, it was reported that two men went into the bank while the third one waited in the car.

The first heist was reported at 10 a.m. at a Royal Bank at 2766 Keele St., north of Wilson.

A woman named Tracey, who didn’t want to appear on camera on reveal her last name, was inside the bank when the bandits stormed in.

“I’m very shaken up over this, two hours later my hands are trembling,” she told CityNews.  “I just moved from a small town here, and I want out of here already.”

“It happened so fast,” she added.  “I ran into an office and I hid under a desk and I was tryng to call 911 and my hands were trembling…they’ve ruined my life, how am going to go into a bank?  I’m terrified.”

Police received a call about a second robbery less than half an hour later at a Bank of Nova Scotia at 2175 Sheppard Ave. E, just east of Highway 404.   Police said the thieves took a bag of money that had a dye pack inside it. 

And the third robbery happened at 11 a.m. at a CIBC bank at 1500 Islington Ave. at Rathburn Road.

Police called the group organized but unsophisticated and said they only made off with a few hundred dollars total.
